about
Born on the porch of bassist Justin Lund's house in Fergus Ontario, Theseus was the product of a late afternoon jam. Centered around lead guitarist Quinton Strutt's riff, and a bass chord progression, the song came together at the end of the night during an acoustic porch jam. Classical Greek references rounded out the song lyrically, based on the myth of the Minotaur. A glimpse of what's to come in the future of The Baxters.
lyrics
all you can see
is all you can keep
Icarus my boy
As I would sing you to sleep
cradle fell
from the highest bough
it looks the same as
as it does to me now
by the mountainside
we'll say our goodbyes
when the crimson tail
and no one asks us why
well you told me
fly as fast son
the wind will take you
from my arms and
test your hands and
I'll see you again
by the setting sun
or on the other end
no boat or fleet could
take us from here
but plato's birds has
flocked so near
we'll lend their feathers
attempt the same feat
but the blue printed ocean
will test our machines
by the mountainside
we'll say our goodbyes
and the crimson tail
and no one asks us why
well you told me
fly as fast son
the wind will take you
from my arms and
test your hands and
I'll see you again
by the setting sun
or on the other end
by the mountainside
we'll say our goodbyes
and the crimson tail
and no one asks us why
child I know that
Theseus is dead
his ship is gone and
so the silver thread
will not lead me
back to you again
at the sea floor
I'll see you underneath it
